Brooklyn Animal Action is an all-volunteer organization

We depend on the energy and commitment of our volunteers, and there are many ways to get involved!

If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities listed below, please email us at volunteer@brooklynanimalaction.org. Be sure to include your skills, interests, and availability. A resume is always appreciated!

Please note that we are a network of rescuers and volunteers, not a shelter. Most of our volunteer opportunities are operational and do not involve direct animal care (although there are a few exceptions). We look forward to hearing from you!

Become a Foster Parent *High Need*

Tabby cat

Want to help cats and become part of a network of animal lovers who are helping improve the lives of animals every day? Then think about fostering! There are many more cats in need then Brooklyn Animal Action can currently help – if you can open your heart and home to a homeless animal you can help save a life. We truly value our fosters and couldn’t help as many cats as we do without help from people like you. You tell us the amount of time that you have to foster: two weeks, one month, until adopted… we’ll take it! We appreciate any time you have to offer. And we’ll help and advise if needed. We can take cats to Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan for fostering. Read our foster FAQ here and check out our foster guidebook.

Our foster application can be downloaded below. Please complete and email it to foster@brooklynanimalaction.org.

Transporter

Rescued kitten in a trap

Have a car, van or SUV and a little extra time? We could really use a hand transporting cats to and from the ASPCA spay/neuter van, veterinarian’s office, or foster homes. This is an essential part of getting kitties off the streets and into safe environments.

Rescuer Assistant

Our rescuers are folks with full time jobs. They need help with their administrative tasks, such as uploading cats to the data base, reference checks for adopters and record keeping. Your help with these tasks will enable the rescuers to focus on saving kitties!

Website Updater

Do you have experience with Word Press? We need people to help us keep our website updated. This can be done remotely and will only require a few hours a week.

Adoption Event Support

Help out at our weekly adoption events; set-up and break down kennels and in between talk to potential adopters and play with the kitties! Be part of the adoption process.

Grant Writing and Fundraising

Brooklyn Animal Action runs solely on contributions. We are in great need of help with our fundraising efforts. If you can help write grants, initiate fundraising ideas and help out at our annual fundraisers please let us know! Additionally those with email marketing or donation interface skills are very much welcomed.

Rescue Recovery Space Provider

TNR cat by Tara

Do you have a basement, garage or other space you could lend for TNR? After TNR (trap-neuter-return) operations, cats need a few days to recover in their traps or carriers, while being fed and cleaned up after by volunteers. Whether we can spay/neuter cats, and thereby save lives, often depends on whether we have recovery space available. If you’re one of those lucky New Yorkers with access to space, please consider donating it for a few days!
