Thank you for your interest in adopting a cat with Brooklyn Animal Action!
We pride ourselves on finding the right addition to your family and ensuring that the adopted cat will be going to their forever home. Because of this priority, our application asks several questions necessary for our screening process. Please read this page carefully before completing the adoption application below. If you have any questions, please ask them in the “Why are you interested in adopting a cat at this time?” section.
We make our best effort to have all of our cats dewormed, treated for fleas, tested for FIV/FELV (most of them are negative unless otherwise noted on their profile), vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. Kittens too young to be spayed/neutered and still needing boosters or vaccines can be arranged by the rescue once old enough.
Our adoption fee is $200 for adult cats, $225 for kittens, and $250+ for special breeds; this goes towards the above vetting and allows us to continue rescuing new cats.
Applicants must be 18+. The person applying must be the primary caretaker of the cats/kittens.
Kittens <1 year old must be adopted with another kitten unless you have a young, playful cat or dog at home.
As part of our process, we will call a personal and a professional reference. We require a vet reference if you have a pet now and/or have had pets recently. We require proof that all current pets are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
Lastly, we will conduct a brief home visit, during which we look for secure windows (with screens) and potentially toxic plants. Here are two resources: ASPCA toxic & non-toxic plantsĀ andĀ signs your cat may have ingested something toxic. Our home visits are done virtually.
Please note we are a Brooklyn, NY-based rescue. Applicants must live in or near the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area.
Once approved to adopt, we ask adopters to arrange to pick up within 1 week. If you have upcoming travel plans, it’s best that you apply within the week of when you are ready to adopt.
We are a small rescue of volunteers and we do our best effort to respond to applications as quickly as possible (please check your Spam folder too when you check your email).
We will provide important information on making your home safe for cats, as well as food and litter recommendations and preferred vets in our area. Please read our FAQs for more tips about adoption and cat care!
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER for our email and please do not submit more than one application, as this will slow down the process.
